Qualifications:

  • Valid FM3, Master 500t Near Coastal, Master 3000t Near Coastal, and other combinations of experience and training will be considered.
  • Valid General Operators’ Certificate.
  • Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (completed within the last 5-years).
  • Solutions-focused, experienced professional who welcomes challenge and change.

  • Knowledge of safe working regulations within a marine environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the vessel, including safe navigation, regulatory adherence, cleanliness, safe handling of all cargo and management of all personnel.
  • Capable of identifying potential hazards associated with the operation of the vessel.
  • Proficient in maintaining records as per regulations and company policies.
  • Responsible for maintaining the ship’s certificates and documentation.
  • Oversee inspection of all safety and emergency equipment.
  • Schedule and execute routine emergency drills as required by NL Marine Services Inc. and Transport Canada.
  • Promote a safe, courteous atmosphere and strive to make improvements in a professional manner.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of all vessels, including preventative maintenance oversight, scheduling of crew and supplying the vessels.

Chief Mate

Qualifications:

  • Valid Master 500t Near Coastal or FM4 will be considered

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties of the Captain in their absence.
  • Manage the deck crew to ensure they follow safe working practices as defined by Company policies and procedures.
  • Identify potential ship hazards associated with deck operations and advise the Captain accordingly.
  • Monitor communication equipment and keep logs and records as required by Transport Canada.
  • Maintain and routinely inspect all safety and emergency equipment such as life jackets, inflatable life rafts, flares, Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), emergency flashlights, first-aid kits, life raft emergency packs, and hand-held radios, etc.
  • Ensure safety equipment is well-organized, operable and available for emergency use; and re-stocked as necessary.
  • Record safety equipment inspections in appropriate logbooks.
  • Coordinate with the Captain the scheduling and execution of routine emergency drills as required by the Company and Transport Canada.
  • Performs navigational watches as deemed necessary and prudent by the Captain in accordance with normal bridge management procedures.
  • Maintains navigational and communication equipment in accordance with national standards, company policy and the Captains standing orders.
  • Report all incidents and accidents by carrying out the appropriate follow-up investigation, recommendations and preventative measures.
  • Complete the vessel inspection checklist.
  • Conduct administrative duties including, vessel chart inventory, creating and maintaining training schedules, vessel certifications and employee certification logs.
  • Promote a safe courteous atmosphere and strive to make improvements in a professional manner.

  • Valid Transport Canada Seafarers Medical.
  • Valid Transport Canada 4th Class (or greater) Motor Ship Certificate.
  • Valid Marine Basic first aid certificate or higher; and knowledge of safe working regulations within a marine environment.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects in a demanding, fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to learn on the job and take direction. Training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Capable of identifying failures, developing worklists, and carrying out preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate machinery systems and apply safety policies as defined by company policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Understand, operate and trouble-shoot the ships electrical assets.
  • Execute any and all scheduled and corrective maintenance on the ships assets.
  • Keep records as required by ship standards, including logs, safety documents and other records.
  • Assist with maintaining proper inventory levels and ordering critical spares.

Deckhands

A dynamic and growing family company, NL Marine Services Inc., is seeking dynamic, high performing self-motivated personnel, for Deckhand positions for the Company’s suite of supply and service vessels.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (completed within the last 5-years).
  • Valid Transport Canada Bridge Watch Rating Certificate of Competency.
  • Valid Transport Canada Seafarers Medical.
  • Previous deckhand experience considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience maintaining engine room machinery and deck equipment is considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance work so that the vessel and equipment is clean, safe and operational.
