Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the vessel, including safe navigation, regulatory adherence, cleanliness, safe handling of all cargo and management of all personnel.
  • Capable of identifying potential hazards associated with the operation of the vessel.
  • Proficient in maintaining records as per regulations and company policies.
    Responsible for maintaining the ship’s certificates and documentation.
  • Oversee inspections of all safety and emergency equipment.
  • Schedule and execute routine emergency drills as required by NL Marine and Transport Canada.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of all vessels, including preventative maintenance oversight, scheduling of crew and supplying the vessels.
  • Implement, prepare and review monthly vessel reports.
  • Promote a safe, courteous atmosphere and strive to make improvements in a professional manner.
  • Effective team player with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment; and willingness to step in and do hands on work when required.

Chief Mate

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the team in the role of Chief Mate to join the Company’s suite of vessels.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Master 500 Gross Ton, Near Coastal, Domestic
  • Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Mate
  • Valid General Operators’ Certificate
  • Valid Marine Emergency Duties and Transport Canada Seafarer’s Marine Medical Certificate

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties of the captain in their absence.
  • Manage the deck crew to ensure they follow safe working practices as defined by Company policies and procedures; and identify potential ship hazards associated with deck operations and advise the captain accordingly.
  • Monitor communication equipment and keep logs and records as required by Transport Canada.
  • Maintain and routinely inspect all safety and emergency equipment; record inspections in appropriate logbooks; and ensure safety equipment is well-organized, operable and available for emergency use.
  • Coordinate with the captain the scheduling and execution of routine emergency drills.
  • Perform navigational watches in accordance with normal bridge management procedures; and maintain navigational and communication equipment.
  • Complete the vessel inspection checklist and conduct administrative duties including vessel chart inventory, creating and maintaining training schedules, vessel certifications and employee certification logs.
  • Promote a safe courteous atmosphere and strive to make improvements in a professional manner.

Deckhands

Qualifications:

  • Valid Transport Canada Seafarers Medical
  • Bridge Watch certificate
  • Previous deckhand experience, FM4, or ERR considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience maintaining engine room machinery and deck equipment is considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance work so that the vessel and equipment is clean, safe, and operational.
  • Operate the deck equipment and vessel machinery in a safe manner, as defined by company policies and procedures.
  • Perform mooring operations, and load and unload cargo.
  • Wear, inspect and maintain personal protective equipment; and participate in emergency and occupational health and safety training.
  • Promote a safe and courteous atmosphere while striving to make improvements in a professional manner.

Vessel Engineers

NL Marine Services Inc. (NL Marine) is a Newfoundland and Labrador owned and operated company that operates a wide range of vessels that support the province’s oil and gas and aquaculture industries. We are seeking highly motivated Third and Fourth Class Engineers to join one of our offshore oil and gas support vessels.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (completed within the last 5-years).
  • Valid Transport Canada Seafarers Medical.
  • Valid Transport Canada 4th Class (or greater) Motor Ship Certificate.
  • Valid Marine Basic first aid certificate or higher; and knowledge of safe working regulations within a marine environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Capable of identifying failures, developing worklists, and carrying out preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to operate machinery systems and apply safety policies as defined by company policies and procedures safely and efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Understand, operate and trouble-shoot the ships’ electrical assets.
  • Execute all scheduled and corrective maintenance on the ship’s assets.
  • Keep records as required by ship standards, including logs, safety documents and other records.
  • Assist with maintaining proper inventory levels and ordering critical spares.
  • Promote a safe and courteous atmosphere while striving to make improvements in a professional manner.
  • Work flexible hours and perform other duties as assigned.
